Microchipping
Microchipping
Takes about two minutes, costs less than a bag of food, and is the difference between a found pet and a lost one. Legally required for dogs in many places.
10 minutes
Who this is for
Every dog, cat and rabbit. Also anyone who already has a chipped animal but has moved house or changed phone number, because an unregistered or out-of-date chip helps nobody.
What’s involved
A small chip is placed under the skin between the shoulder blades with a needle. It carries a number, not a tracker. When someone scans your animal, that number brings up your contact details on a national database.
What happens on the day
It takes about as long as a vaccination and most animals barely react. We scan afterwards to confirm the chip reads, and we register it for you before you leave.
How to prepare
Bring the contact details you want registered, including a second contact if you have one. A phone number that reaches you when you’re away from home is worth more than a landline.
Afterwards
Update the database whenever you move or change number. We can check your chip is registered correctly at any appointment: just ask, there’s no charge for scanning.
Cost
Microchipping at Juniper is [price], including registration. It is often included when done alongside neutering.
